As a national park, the Serengeti actually does not have any permanent structures. The only buildings are on strips of private land, owned by some of the largest safari chains in Africa. They are stunning, beautiful and a wonderful experience, but if it were up to us, we would stay in a camp every single time.
Why? The Serengeti is unique as a landscape and staying in the Savannah at night should be an essential part of any Safari experience. You’ll forget a night in a fancy hotel, but you’ll never forget being awoken by the clopping hooves of a Giraffee just feet away; the howls of a distant lion pride; the chirping birds at dawn; or the potential to bump into a hiena on your way back from sundowners (Hyena’s are generally very scared of humans and scamper away).
The real concern for most people is how comfortable camping is, and we can tell you from first-hand experience that the public campsite lacks facilities and can be a long, back-breaking night. It’s an enriching experience, but too much for many.
The best alternative is a halfway house; a luxurious accommodation with all the amenities and facilities you need, while still offering the wildest possible experience, a night in the Serengeti.

Pumba Luxury Camps is a lodging facility located within the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The camp is new, but is inspired by a long history of authentic wilderness experiences, with modern camping amenities, a secure base for wildlife exploration and a touch of luxury while in the wild.
Camp Structure and Location
The camp is situated within the Serengeti National Park itself. The structure is set up to ensure guest safety and security while providing direct access to the park’s environment. The facility is equipped with essential infrastructure, including the use of Solar Power for operation and complimentary Free Wi-Fi for guests (for sharing your pictures with your friends, family and followers).
Accommodation.
The camp features four standardised suite types designed to accommodate small and large group.
Single Suite: Configured for one guest, offering standard amenities.
Double Suite: Accommodates two guests. These rooms feature decor that includes refurbished furniture and pieces created by local artisans.
Triple Suite: Provides space for three guests.
Family Suite: The largest option, designed for four or more guests, and positioned for family use.
All suites typically include features such as a shower, work desk, and a focus on providing comfortable sleeping arrangements within the wilderness setting.
