Pachikonjo roughly translates to ‘Birds Nest’ in the Ngoni language (a Zulu dialect) from the Ngoni tribe; this is where the family owned Pachikonjo Beach Resorts roots lay. The Ngoni tribe’s history starts in southern Africa which they called home until the 1820’s when widespread tribal conflict, known as the Mfecane war, led to a mass migration often referred to as the great scattering; the Pachikonjo ancestors could have crossed the Zambezi River as early as the 1830’s before settling in the Viphya Plataeu (now part of Zambia, Malawi and the Matema district of Tanzania). It took 20 years of traveling, over thousands of miles through Mozambique and Zimbabwe for their ancestors to find a new home Although, the Pachikonjo Beach Resorts ancestors’s history has been quite turbulent the aim at the Beach Resort itself is to make sure that customers can appreciate the beautiful and awe inspiring scenery and indulge in the slower pace away from their busy lives.

The Beach Resort’s facilities are perfect for a large group to come together, BBQ and drink your cold beverage of choice. There are several spots which are particularly beautiful to relax under the trees for shade, while the food and drink is served in the beach house and enjoyed on our balcony. The beach is so close that while the adults catch up the kids (or big kids) can build sandcastles and splash in the sea. In those warm nights a cool breeze runs through the traditional thatched beach house and keeps the climate perfect for sleeping. Or take a blanket out onto the grass where the stars are the brightest that you’ll ever see.

The beach house is the perfect location for anything from romantic couples retreats to a family get-togethers. Inside there are two shared each with one single bed and a double bed facing out onto the shared balcony and the spectacular easterly views. There are two shared shower rooms and toilets in the rear of the building- one upstairs and another downstairs and another separate toilet and shower facilities can be found just outside the rear of the Beach House (which is perfect for washing after a day at the beach before going into the building itself). Each individual room has access to a private balcony and access to the shared balcony at the front of the building; from here you can see the iconic Pachikonjo Beach Resort views that few Dar Es Salaam Beach Resorts can boast. There is nothing better than enjoying the cool sea breeze and the sound of the waves before drifting off to sleep.
